Two hand bag designers are arguing over who owns the rights to a certain design of clasp and to the overall look of a handbag. Although it's a US case, it's a perfect example of the often confusing overlap between registered designs and trademarks comprised of 3-D shapes (as we call them in the UK). Add in a touch of copycat branding and allegations of 'passing off', on which I've commented previously, and you've got a heady mix of intellectual property law and the drama of high fashion.
