The Snowden revelations have led a lot of people to question how private their data is when it's held by US companies so this latest development in the battle between the US Government and Internet Service Providers may prove a real boost to the open source movement. If the court accepts the argument that Apple's restrictive licence terms means "it can be compelled to step in and take control of the device", more people may feel it's time to switch to phones, tablets and computers running non-proprietary operating systems. No wonder Apple is fighting hard on this one.
